Bakery Of a Different Variety

Manila Hut

Three years ago when Manila Hut first opened its doors in Hempstead, they understood that in a turbulent economy the power of word-of-mouth and customer loyalty would (eventually) build a strong business. Now, this family-run restaurant is pushing to reach a much larger audience with a brand new menu full of sweet treats - which are the perfect ways to celebrate your summer meals.

Many will remember Manila Hut for their delicious Philippine cuisine; however, they now have a number of tasty desserts added to the menu. Upon walking into the dining area you'll notice immediately the assortment of cakes: mango, mocha, chocolate and purple - that's right, purple cakes! The purple cake is actually called Ube, which is a fruit/vegetable very similar to a sweet potato, yet it comes from the ground naturally with a deep purple color. In addition, the sweet breads, steamed muffins, soft rolls, assorted pastries topped with coconut and sweet fillings will erase any summer blues.

The Philippine culture borrows heavily from both the Chinese and the Spanish, and that is evident in the selection of baked goods. Apart from the aforementioned goodies, you'll also find chicken empanadas, Spanish bread, cassava, and leche flan. So next time you're on Main Street, stop in and be delighted with some scrumptious treats and food. Special authentic Filipino desserts and dishes are available upon request.

Be sure to visit them at www.manilahut.net.
